Ba Hao
Ba Hao is Yaowarat’s ultimate Chinese-themed bar with an open front
highlighted by giant neon letters. It maintains the vibe of old-school
Hong Kong speakeasies, while bringing something new to the table. The
impressive menu boasts inimitable concoctions like Five Rivers, which
infuses a traditional Chinese five-spice mixture with dark rum for a savoury
hit. Another recommendation is Forbidden Golden, which combines
mashed plum fruit with peach liquor and lime, topped with refreshingly
cold Tsingtao beer. In addition, owner Tikhamporn Chuenkittivoravat was
trained as a chef at Mandarin Oriental Bangkok, so make sure to order
some delicious snacks to complement your boozy selection.

Asia Today
Another one of Niks Anuman-Rajadhon’s projects, Asia
Today is a fresh new addition to Chinatown’s bar scene with
a cocktail menu that focuses on Thailand’s unique regional
ingredients. Located in a sub-soi across the popular Teens of
Thailand, the décor is humble and minimalistic, apart from the
giant model shark that hangs overhead. Bar stools offer the
perfect view of the talented bartenders in action, whereas the
upstairs area is a more intimate space reserved for tasting the
various rare and unusual ingredients. The team, headed by
Niks and head bartender Kiattikoon Toon Auengkum, travel
around the country gathering local ingredients to make their
unique concoctions. An example is the Wild Honey Daiquiri
made with special honey from Khao Yai. Other fascinating
ingredients on the menu include pickled garlic, tiger ear leaves
and cucumber bitters.

Facebook: @asiatodaybar 23, this Chinatown watering hole has become a favourite
among locals and expats looking for cold beers and local
liquors, accompanied by an eclectic selection of music.
23 Bar and Gallery also doubles as a gallery with artistic
odds and ends plastered across walls and staircases.
There is also a monthly art exhibition, so the décor
is ever-changing and the choices are always
interesting. The drinks menu is straightforward,
featuring a variety of beers and strong classic
cocktails at reasonable prices. In combination
with the easygoing and friendly ambience,
it is no surprise that the bar has a large and
committed fan base that does not mind spilling
into the buzzing streets, drink in hand, when the
shophouse-cum-bar gets too full.
