Chris looked for an opportunity to expand and the result was BREW Mikkeller Bangkok
at Seenspace Bar in Thonglor, where they exclusively served craft
beer in bottles rather than on tap.

However, it wasn’t until Mikkeller opened that the first true craft-
beer bar arrived, complete with rotating taps, expert beer knowledge
and curated beers. Mikkeller introduced 30 taps and a level of beer
knowledge that is hardly surpassed even today. This led to a domino
effect of bars emerging all around the city, mostly focused on bottled
craft beers because tap systems were difficult to maintain and many
establishments wanted steady brands rather than rotating taps.

Looking to make a wide variety of beer more accessible led to the
opening of the first branch of Hair of the Dog, situated at Mahatun
Plaza on Ploenchit Road, while the second location was launched in
Phrom Phong in 2016. Subsequently, the “cool” factor of craft beer
became mainstream, as every Thai beer drinker wanted to become
a craft expert. Ever since, there have been several, somewhat
successful, local beer brewers looking to invest in this business for
the long term.
