Editor’s Note
Many Thai-Indians might recognise Yol Pranvarin Pame from her bridal
ensembles that have recently swept through social media pages. Her
wedding to Rajvin Narula, director of Royal Industries and Mommories Co.,
Ltd. and heir to the family-owned Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit, drew much
media attention. It’s no surprise that her celebrity status precedes her
compassionate and soft-spoken demeanour. For behind the sultry, bad girl
persona she has portrayed in over 16 lakorns (soap operas) beats the heart
of a fun-loving 25 year-old who initially struggled to reach success. Masala
gets candid with this actress and model for a behind-the-scenes feature
into her life as a Thai celebrity. Read more about Yol in our exclusive cover
story, ‘Star Struck’ on page 42.
For more inspirational stories on hardworking personalities, turn to our
People’s section where we meet Kenneth Singh Singleton (page 58), a Sikh
born in Bangkok, who moved to the United States more than 40 years ago
to ful ll his dream of becoming a medical doctor. His journey is one lled
with countless hardships; however, he didn’t let any adversity shatter his
determination. Another noteworthy story is ‘My Heart and I’ (page 54),
where a young woman, diagnosed with severe heart problems in her early
20s, describes how her medical issues have become a source of her
strength. Sarina Pathela recounts her audacious journey, as she overcame
multiple illnesses and still continues to do so to this day.
While we celebrate remarkable achievements in our People’s section, our
other stories also appeal to a vast variety of interests — particularly the
Art’s feature, where pop culture and Sikh tradition meet in ‘Inkquisitive
Illustrations’ (page 62). The collection of bold and daring art pieces are
by London-based Amandeep Singh, who reveals more about his creative
endeavours in an exciting interview with Masala.
Don’t forget to check out our fashion story as well, as we feature our latest

under her own brand, Drama Queen Makeup by Marisa, this charming 29
year-old has a sophisticated sense of style to match her beauty. Read ‘A
