What inspired you to pursue acting?
Ever since I was young, I always loved getting dressed
in my mother’s high heels, wearing her makeup, and
performing different acts in front of my parents, cousins
and friends. When I was in school, I was a cheerleader and
was often chosen for plays. I always felt confident and
loved performing in front of a crowd.
How did you manage to land your first commercial?
Many agency scouts would stop me in the malls or on the
streets, and encouraged me to come in for casting and
photo shoots. The first commercial I was chosen for was
for Lifebuoy Shampoo in Indonesia.
Did you go to any school or institution to learn acting?
Not at all! I think the best way to learn is to watch different
characters on TV and try to emulate what you see
onscreen. As they say practice makes perfect. I always
try to practise on my own or in front of my family before a
casting call.
What makes you a good actress?
A good actress is someone who is responsible, on
time and studies their character. It is not just about
remembering the lines. As an actor, we must learn the role
we are given and understand what emotions the directors
and writers have envisioned for the character.
What were your initial struggles and how did you
overcome them?
During my first commercial casting, I was overwhelmed.
There were over 100 models waiting outside the
producer’s room. However, once I was cast for a lakorn,
I found that the working hours and far-off locations
were the real struggle for me. Sometimes our shooting
periods would start at 5am, for which I would have to
wake up at 3am to travel to the location. And then many
times, work would end at 11pm. By the time, I got back
home, within a couple of hours, I had to get ready to go
and film another scene. During these tiring periods, my
mum always supported me and travelled with me. I had
to keep reminding myself to never give up and to be
truly committed to my work.
What was your first TV soap opera role and how did
you get it?
I played an orphan who lived with a group of kids in the
woods, fighting off their enemies in the TV series called
Koh Mahasajan. Katana Productions called my modelling
agency and I was shortlisted for the role.
