Diwali Festival

he Amazing Thailand Diwali Festival, held at Bangkok’s Little
India, along the Ong Ang Canal opposite Phahurat Road, was
a stunning celebration of Diwali that took place from 30 October to
3 November. This vibrant event brought together people from all
backgrounds, offering a unique opportunity to experience and appreciate
the Diwali festival, and the strong, enduring ties between Thailand and
India. The ceremony welcomed an esteemed lineup of dignitaries,
including Indian Ambassador to Thailand Nagesh Singh, Thai Prime
Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, former Thai Prime Minister Sretta
Thavisin, Thai Minister of Tourism and Sports Sorawong Thienthong,
and Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt.
The festival’s inauguration was marked by a performance from a
Rajasthani folk dance troupe, supported by the Indian Council for
Cultural Relations (ICCR). Visitors were invited to explore the bustling
street stalls, which featured an enticing array of Indian foods, clothing,
jewellery, and handicrafts. Interactive workshops on traditional Indian
arts such as henna, rangoli, and diya painting allowed attendees to gain
hands-on experience, further immersing them in the spirit of Diwali.
In addition to the food and shopping, the festival’s programme included
performances that highlighted the best of both cultures. Bollywood
dance, classical Indian music, and traditional Thai performances created
a harmonious atmosphere that reflected the blending of Indian and
Thai cultural elements.
