What sets your company apart from other mattress brands?
My goal is to make our guests feel like they are at home, and
that’s why we use very high quality components inside the bed,
as well as high quality fabrics which is equivalent to retail.
Our mattresses have a guarantee of 10 years.
But the major reason that our export market is really going
to take off this year is because we are able to compress
mattresses. We can take an 11-inch mattress and compress
it into two inches to be roll-packed. We are the only player in
Thailand, and one of the very few players in Southeast Asia, that
can do this. We have been working on this technology for the
last three and a half years, and have invested very heavily in our
own pocket spring technology. Now we are able to export out of
Thailand without having to set up multiple factories worldwide.
What exactly sparked this dream of yours?
Well, roll-packing is nothing new, but it’s usually done with
latex and memory foam mattresses. So, I thought why can’t
we do this with pocket springs? If the quality is good enough,
it should be able to work. So, we bought a rolling machine and
kept testing it until we got the right product. It was a necessity
for us because we were growing at a very fast rate. For handling
the kind of volume that we do today, I would have to open three
more warehouses just for storing all these mattresses, which
is a lot of money. But now because our pocket spring requires
only one third of the space, we can maintain the same number
of warehouses.
Why is Thailand such a great place to start a business?
Thailand is not the lowest cost-producer in the world, but
defi nitely a completely priced producer, with the minimum wage
being so low. Our corporate taxes, at 20 percent, are one of the
lowest in the world.
What is a typical workday like for you?
I have a job that I love so I don’t have to work a day in my life!
Going into the offi ce or factory is like going into my playground
and having fun. I love what I do and I really enjoy the people
that I work with. I like to hire people who are smarter than me,
who can represent our company by going out there and selling,
because I no longer handle that. My work doesn’t end when I
get home because I continue thinking about new ways to grow
the business, including what new technological developments
we need to work on.
Personally, what do you love most about living in Thailand?
I have lived in many parts of the world, but today, I could not live
anywhere else but Thailand. I think that’s attributed to me being
Thai, and the Thai people and our culture. We are spoiled here
by the people and the environment. We also have a lot of great
friends we grew up with. The Thai-Indian community here is
simply the best Indian community in the world!
How do you unwind on weekends?
I used to work on the weekends and go to the factory every
Saturday. I’ve stopped that now. I usually spend time with the family.
We love to go to the beach. Phuket and Hua Hin are our top spots.
