There is no doubt that travelling both soothes and excites the soul, and with the start of 2017 it serves as the perfect
way to rediscover yourself. With more and more tourists flocking to our motherland each year, one tends to ponder
what more India has to offer besides the mainstream cities we visit oh-so-often. However, this vast country is home to
some of the most unique and picturesque landscapes, national parks and towns you could ever imagine.

Savandurga, Karnataka: The Climb

A mere 60 kms drive from India’s IT hub Bangalore, is
Savandurga – an ideal weekend getaway location for thrill
seekers. Known to be the largest monolith, or a single
rock formation, in all of Asia, visitors can embark on one of
the most challenging treks here with two trails available
— Kachiguda (an advanced route where a permit is
required) and Biligudda (a moderate trail without permit
requirements). The composition of the hills is primarily
granite, hence when seen at a distance, it looks like a
single large stone. Stunning lush green panoramic views
of the outskirts of Bangalore are promised once trekkers
reach the highest peak of the hike. Visitors can also camp
overnight if they are feeling truly adventurous.

Best time to visit: November to May. Avoid the rainy
season as it makes the rocks too slippery to climb.
