Cosy family den
Prasan Bohara has often contemplated plans to renovate her
home. She finally took the momentous step two years ago,
leaving her and her husband, Dharma Chand (D.C.) more than
satisfied. A graduate of interior design, this imaginative lady
took it upon herself to design their 300 square-metre apartment
into a beautiful home the couple has lived in for 20 years.
Grand opulence that overcomes you as soon as you enter the
apartment is one of the effects from her many lengthy and
tiresome excursions to Chatuchak Weekend Market. These very
excursions, however, resulted in many awe-worthy buys that
enchant you with their splendour and distinctiveness.
Old-world charms in the living room Formal seating arrangement in the living room
One such unique buy was a striking pedestal column of black
onyx marble. It welcomes you when you step foot into the home’s
foyer. Seeing that it appeared incomplete, the couple decided to
buy a large black vase which, after much delay, met the exact
measurements needed. It’s now filled with Prasan’s favourite
white lotuses. Above the vase, a crystal chandelier hangs from a
white Venetian-carved ceiling décor that exudes elegance. These
three fixtures are emphasised with four white and black tiles
perfectly placed around the column. Adjacent is a different set of
tiles that lead up to three parts of the home – living room, dining
area and family den.
