Spacious dining table Memorabilia in the foyer
Bohara family photo
Opposite the kitchen is a sliding, tempered
glass door that opens to a small prayer
room, created by dividing the helper’s room
into two. White tiles with hints of yellow and
gold dominate the walls of this room. A large
painting of the Jain god Mahavir is attached
to an intricate, golden Thai-style frame that
hangs on the walls. Outside the prayer room
is Prasan’s impressive collection of the
Hindu god Ganesha. After she bought one
statue of the god, a priest told her that this
Lord of Good Fortune will come to her by
himself. After that, her relatives and friends
started presenting her with statues of the
god in different sizes and different colours
until she was able to reach her target of
109 Ganeshas.
In the other side of the foyer hangs a
precious 31 year-old Burmese painting
with intricate embroidery that depicts tribal
life. Below this, two Rajasthani wooden
dolls representing the gods Isar and Gauri,
reminiscent of the couple’s hometown, stand
on an antique table in between a framed
photo depicting a special family moment –
the beautiful grandmother poses with her
son in July 1981 and with her first grandson
in July 2013.
