A private elevator in Baan Sathorn, located
in Sathorn Soi 1, takes you directly up
to the Mehta home. The elevator doors
open and you step into a foyer. Four
photographs of Lord Ganesha mounted in
sleek, golden frames are displayed on a
                 turquoise, fabric-like wallpaper covering
the small foyer’s walls. These vibrant
photographs were gifted by a close friend,
adding to a small collection of Ganeshas
belonging to the lady of the house, Manju
Mehta. Another statue of the God of Good
Fortune hangs on the wall opposite the
                 foyer, past the main door.

As you step inside the home, an unusual
sense of openness engulfs you. The
Mehta abode is wide, contemporary and Precious memorabilia found in the living room
fashionable. This was the exact vision
both Manju and her husband, Ramesh
Mehta, desired when they decided to
redecorate their home six years ago. They
wanted to get rid of the original gloomy,
gray atmosphere and dark, black furniture
that overwhelmed the house 15 years
ago, when the couple moved in with their
son. With this mutual vision in mind,
they sought to create a home that was
expansive and modern, with a touch of
                 their traditional Indian roots.
