Bangkok City
Standing in the heat of the summer,
Sweat trickling down my forehead,
I walk ahead through the winding streets,
Cables dangling above, not knowing what lies ahead.
Carts jostle for attention,
As the smoke rises into the air, leaving a charred taste.
Each step I take, I find myself on new ground.
My feet touching the concrete tiles
I walk ahead onto another path.
The traffic lights glimmer red, yellow and green,
Cars honking at each other in between.
A light breeze settles in
As the dark clouds cave.
Ahead I see a building stacked next to another.
These crowded skyscrapers are not fooling anyone
Because if you look behind, there is another slum.
The rich and the poor share one thing which I admire,
A smile on their faces. They greet in beautiful Thai attire,
Woven silk, handcrafted,
Represents the purity of the Thai people.
As I walk into the night through the streets of Bangkok,
And watch the sun dip beneath the clouds,
Spewing vibrant pinks and oranges from its horizon,
I look down to see my shadow disappear,
Underneath a sky full of stars that appear.
