What about other supplements?
Regardless of age, some of the essential supplements you may consider taking include:
Collagen
It is not a surprise that collagen is often referred to as a “complex protein,” as it contains 19
different amino acids. This substance acts like a natural glue that holds your body together, i.e.
it tones and tightens the skin. Other health benefi ts include reducing joint pain and
degeneration, and strengthening of hair, nails and teeth.
When your skin begins to age and premature wrinkles start to become visible, it is often
because your body isn’t producing enough collagen. So try adding a spoonful of collagen
powder to your daily smoothie and see the difference!
Vitamin C
Also known as ascorbic acid, vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin and a
potent antioxidant that can neutralise free radicals in the skin. These are
substances that cause skin damage and ageing. Free radicals can even
be produced when you are breathing, so guard your body with vitamin C.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids
Fish and fl axseed oil are great sources of omega-3 fatty acids. Not only is Anti-ageing Process
this supplement essential for optimal brain health, but it also helps reduce
blood pressure and combats infl ammation. Several studies have also
shown that higher intake of omega-3 is linked to decreased age-related
mental decline and a reduced risk of Alzheimer’s disease. It also helps
manage skin hydration, which prevents premature ageing.
Turmeric
Infl ammation is incredibly important to our body, as it helps fi ght against
foreign invaders and also has a role in repairing damage. Without
infl ammation, bacteria could take over. So don’t get me wrong, short term
infl ammation is benefi cial, but it becomes a problem when it is chronic.
It is now believed that low levels of recurring infl ammation plays a major
role in almost every chronic disease, including cancer, heart disease,
metabolic syndrome, Alzheimer’s disease and various other degenerative
conditions. To prevent this, many use a natural substance known as
turmeric, which is very easy to incorporate in your cooking.
Besides diet, what are some other ways to slow down ageing?
To promote a healthy mind, body and soul, try to fi t in about 150 minutes of
moderate aerobic exercise into your weekly routine. The keyword here is
moderation, because anti-ageing workouts are not aimed at overstressing
muscle. It is all about the balance between fl exibility, strength and
endurance. Try activities such as brisk walking, swimming, yoga and Pilates.
In addition to exercise, we need to fi nd time to enrich our mind and soul as
well. You can choose routines that give you a balance of both, like Tai chi or
Qigong, or spare as little as fi ve minutes to meditate and relax.
We all know that as you age, your hormone production declines and
this leads to menopause in women or andropause in men (which causes
baldness). If you make these activities habitual, it will help balance your
hormones, as well as prevent their levels from declining rapidly.
